How Was Fishing This Past Week?

In one word: excellent. Our captains put anglers on multiple species nearly every trip out of Harbor Island Marina in Solomons Island, MD. A little floating sea grass slowed one morning, but the crew adjusted fast and kept the rods bending.

Here’s the day-by-day breakdown.

August 15 — Sea Grass in the AM, Feisty Bluefish in the PM

Floating sea grass hampered our morning Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish haul, but we still put together a solid catch. When the water fouls up, you adapt, and that’s exactly what we did.

The afternoon trip more than made up for it. Mean, feisty 5–10 lb Bluefish kept us very busy, and mixed in with those bruisers were a few Red Drum and a few Cobia. That’s a stacked afternoon on the Bay.

What a morning! Our walk-on/mixed group landed 44 Spanish Mackerel and 21 Bluefish. The crew was a fun mix of long-tenured clients and brand-new anglers, and everybody got in on the action.

That’s the beauty of a walk-on trip. You share the boat, share the fun, and head home with a cooler full of fresh fish.

Awesome day on the water! We put together a great catch of Red Drum, and they weren’t the only fish biting. Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish rounded out the day for a true multi-species trip.

When the Red Drum turn on like this, they test every bit of your strength on the way to the boat. It’s the kind of fight anglers remember for years.

August 18–20 — Solid Haul with 39 Macs and 48 Fryer Bluefish

The strong run kept rolling through midweek. One standout afternoon produced 39 Spanish Macs and 48 fryer-size Bluefish out of Solomons, MD.

Those fryer Bluefish are perfect eating size, and with numbers like that, everyone went home with plenty for the grill.
